PROPOSALS

AIRSHOW PROPOSAL

I propose that the club abandons the Annual Airshow and replaces it with more club activities. Any surplus Airshow equipment could then be sold off.

Proposer: Martin Phillips

Seconder: Tom Jones

Reasons:

  1. More and more modellers now buy their planes and equipment online, and thus modelling companies are much less willing to participate in trade stands. It is these stands which historically provided a significant income to the Airshow.
  2. Profits at the Airshow have significantly dropped over the years, and indeed had the BMFA not paid for the toilet facilities, the last two air shows would not have made a profit.
  3. It should always be remembered that the Airshow can make a significant loss if it has to be cancelled at short notice, or the weather is poor.
  4. We don’t really need the Airshow to support club funds. The Club already has one of the lowest rates of fees of any model flying club, and can sustain its current activities on those low fees.
  5. It imposes a large workload on a small number of people. While most are volunteers, one person, the Treasurer, has no choice in the matter and has a considerable workload before the Airshow weekend, during the Airshow, and in the weeks afterwards. It is not really viable to offload most of this workload. This may well contribute to why we find retaining a Treasurer long term is proving difficult.
  6. As it is, the club offers virtually no activities for members during the year. If those same Airshow volunteers were prepared to support club activities, we could hold a number of events throughout the year, swap-meets, fly-ins (with guest flyers invited), flying competitions, barbecues.

ADOPTION OF TRIAL PITTING AREA

We propose that TMFC formally adopts the trial pitting area as an additional pit to be used when appropriate, access to be gained via the grass track and cars to be parked behind the pit being used.

I would suggest we take a vote on this first then any amendments to improve the proposal by making hard surfaces etc, are then discussed.

  • Reason.
  1. This has stopped the complaints of overflying the stables.
  2. Safety is greatly improved with the sun behind pilots.

  • Proposed Jeff Staines.
  • Seconded Mick Black

PROPOSAL TO MAKE CHANGES TO CONSTITUTION

Any proposals from the membership must be seconded and submitted in writing to the Secretary at least 28 days before the published date of the meeting. (Original text)

Any proposals from the membership must be seconded and submitted in writing to the Secretary and Chairman at least 28 days before the published date of the meeting.

Reason: –

  • Gives 2 recipients, so less chance of a proposal being missed, or overlooked.

Nominations for Committee posts must be made in writing to the Chairman at least 2 weeks before the date of an AGM. (Original text)

Nominations for Committee posts must be made in writing to the Chairman and Secretary at least 28 days before the date of an AGM.

Reasons:

  • Gives 2 recipients so less chance of a Nomination being missed, or overlooked.
  • Ties in with dates for proposals so AGM notice can include nominations as well as proposals.

Membership

Membership of the club shall be open to all persons within the Teesside Area (defined as an area within a 15-mile radius of the Club’s Redmarshall Site), irrespective of ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or beliefs, or of age, sex or disability – except as necessary consequence of the requirements of model flying as a particular sport. (Original text)

Membership will be refused, if the proposed member has been dismissed or left any model flying club due to disciplinary or proposed disciplinary proceedings. (Add this at end)

Membership will be refused, if the proposed member has been dismissed or left any model flying club, due to disciplinary or proposed disciplinary proceedings (how it would read if passed)

Reason: –

  • This is always a deciding factor for potential members.
  • I believe it was in one of the former constitutions.
  • It will validate the rational, if the membership secretary or committee need to refuse membership.

Proposal to change rules

Basically add .5 after 7 kg to make 7.5kg to read the same as article 16

and remove the need to attach peg card to pegboard since very few people do this anyway.
